Not Everything Needs to Be Pumpkin

Not Everything Needs to Be Pumpkin

Archie Pamadi |

Fall has a scent problem.

Everywhere you turn, there’s pumpkin. Pumpkin coffee. Pumpkin beer. Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin candles. Pumpkin something-or-other that nobody asked for but somehow ended up buying anyway.

Pumpkin has had a good run. But fall has a lot more going for it.

Fall has plenty of scents worth bringing indoors. Cedar after a cool walk. Sandalwood when the lights are low. A little smoke from a late-night drink. The earthy smell of the woods. None of them need a pumpkin label to feel like fall.

Fall Has More Than One Scent

Fall isn't really about pumpkin. It's about atmosphere.

So, what changes when fall arrives? The air cools down. You leave the windows open a little longer. Dinner gets slower, and the lights come on earlier. Maybe there’s a football game in the background, or someone pours a drink after work. Without changing anything, the room feels different.

This is when richer scents start to make sense. Woody notes feel right. So do sandalwood, cedar, amber, smoke, spice, and earthy accords. They add warmth to your living room without making it feel like a pumpkin patch.

The Fall Edit

Black Sandalwood

Its deeper, wood-forward character brings a little polish to a room, especially when the lights go down and the evening starts to stretch out.

For something that leans more outdoorsy, Woodland Escape brings the feeling of being somewhere beyond the backyard. It’s the kind of scent that makes you think less about seasonal décor and more about getting away for the weekend.

That sounds like fall to us.

Take the Scenic Route

Fall is the perfect season for getting outside as the heat backs off and the air gets crisp. Trails become a lot more appealing when you aren't sweating through your shirt five minutes into the walk.

That spirit comes through in Wilderness Trail, part of the Manly Indulgence Adventure Collection. It brings a little of the outdoors inside, making it an easy choice for a room that could use a little less “seasonal candle” and a little more “weekend escape.”

And you don't need a cabin in the woods to enjoy it; your living room will do, as well as your home office, especially when the workday is over.

Then Turn the Lights Down

Not every fall evening calls for a hike. Sometimes the best plan involves staying exactly where you are. That's when darker, moodier scents get their turn.

After Hours

5 O'Clock Shadow

It fits that point in the day when work is done, the overhead lights can go off, and the evening finally belongs to you.

Then there's Dark & Stormy, which takes the mood in a different direction. It's a little more mysterious, a little more nighttime, and a natural fit for evenings when you want the room to feel less ordinary.

And if your idea of fall involves a good drink, good music, and absolutely no reason to leave the house, Havana Nights brings a warmer, more worldly edge to the room.

“Your house doesn't need a fall makeover. Sometimes, all it needs is a different scent.”

That's the beauty of scent.

Save the Pumpkin for the Pie

We're not anti-pumpkin. Pumpkin pie deserves its moment. Pumpkin bread can stay. If pumpkin is your thing, by all means, enjoy it. But fall doesn't need to smell like one ingredient from October through Thanksgiving.

There are woods to explore. Fires to imagine. Drinks to pour. Trails to take. Long evenings to enjoy. So, this year, give pumpkin a little competition. Reach for sandalwood. Try cedar. Bring in something smoky, earthy, or woodsy. Find a scent that warms the room without smelling like a bakery. “Because fall has range.”

Pumpkin can have the pie. We'll take the woods.
