What do young people actually want from a candle now?
Not another “ocean breeze.”
Not another fake luxury scent with a forgettable label.
And definitely not something that looks aesthetic but has zero personality.
People want candles that feel personal. A scent that matches a mood. A name that sounds like a text message, an inside joke, a meme, or a late-night thought. Something self-aware, modern, and easy to connect with.
That question became the starting point for the new Off Script collection from Manly Indulgence®.
Before creating the collection, we surveyed younger consumers across genders to understand how people actually shop for candles today. We asked what fragrance profiles they gravitate toward, what names catch their attention online, which emotions they associate with scent, and what makes them stop scrolling long enough to hit “add to cart.”
Less “luxury spa.” More personality.
One thing became clear almost immediately:
Today’s shoppers are less interested in traditional fragrance categories and more drawn to products that feel recognizable, mood-driven, and real.
They want candles that feel conversational instead of overly polished. Scents that match actual routines and emotions instead of fantasy concepts. Names inspired by internet culture, everyday language, nightlife, burnout, ambition, quiet moments, and the moods people already talk about online.
That insight shaped every candle in the Off Script collection.
Candles Inspired by Real Moods
Off Script was never built around traditional fragrance categories. It was built around moments, habits, routines, and emotional states that people instantly recognize.
Why Mood-Based Candles Connect So Easily
Candles today are less about “home fragrance” and more about atmosphere.
People light candles while gaming, studying, journaling, creating content, listening to playlists, resetting after work, hosting friends, or decompressing after spending all day online.
A candle becomes part of the routine — part aesthetic, part comfort, part identity.
That is why naming matters so much. Names like Dark Mode, Hot Take, and Low Signal instantly create a feeling before the candle is even lit.
The survey also revealed another major shift: People are shopping less for traditional “for him” or “for her” fragrance labels and more by mood, energy, and vibe.
Instead of choosing scents by gender, they gravitate toward fragrances that match how they want a space to feel.
The Off Script collection reflects that mindset completely.
